與匡智學員同遊屯門消防局及香港濕地公園,渡過一個輕鬆愉快又有意義的週末

備註:

一)活動開始前,匡智地區支援中心社工會作簡短講解,以便義工了解與學員相處的技巧及注意事項

二)活動約於3:30 pm 完結,活動完結後,義工可乘坐大會安排的專車返回港鐵粉嶺站

三)參加校友可邀請一名親友參與,但必須年滿18 歲或以上

四)每名參加者將會被安排照顧一名匡智學員

Following his assumption of office at Lingnan University on 2 September, President Leonard K Cheng has initiated a number of activities to enhance communication and connection with students, staff and other stakeholders.

5 September, 2013

A visiting team from the University Grants Committee (UGC) came to Lingnan University on 5 September to foster better mutual understanding and enhance direct communication with staff and students. Led by UGC Chairman Mr Edward Cheng Wai-sun, the 18-member team was accompanied by Secretary-General Dr Richard Armour and Secretariat staff.

At a seminar on 7 September, Dr Mary Wong Shuk-han of the Department of Chinese of Lingnan University discussed with four guest speakers which Hong Kong literary works they wished most to be adapted to film.

10 September, 2013

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) of Lingnan University has been commissioned by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region to launch the Macao Old-Age Security Inter-Departmental Study, in order to implement the Chief Executive’s proposal in his 2012 Policy Address that a mid- and long-term elderly services development plan should be in place by 2015. The contract was officially signed on 10 September.

On 11 September, Mr Adam Wong Sau-ping, director of a recent blockbuster The Way We Dance, was invited by the Centre for Cinema Studies to share with about 50 teachers and students his inspiration for making the film and views on the development of the local film market.

The kick-off ceremony of the Lingnanian Career Mentoring Programme (LCMP) 2013/14, officiated by President Leonard K Cheng, was held on 12 September.

Prof Jesús Seade, Vice-President of Lingnan University, has been interviewed by the Chinese newspaper Ming Pao Daily News recently about his views on the future of the Chinese and global economies. His comments were included in a feature story on the fifth anniversary of the global financial tsunami published on 18 September.

President Leonard K Cheng presented his insights on renminbi (RMB) internationalisation and the role of Hong Kong to some 200 students and staff members at the first University Assembly 2013/14 on 23 September.

The emphasis on the production of research papers has led to questionable research practices and a call for socially responsible scholarship from Prof Anne Tsui, Professor Emerita at the Arizona State University. Prof Tsui was speaking at an academic seminar titled “Spirit of Science and Socially Responsible Scholarship” organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies of Lingnan University on 24 September.

Lingnan University appointed eight distinguished individuals as honorary Court members in recognition of their contributions to the University as former Council and/or Court members or to the community at large. An award ceremony for the honorary Court members was held on 25 September at Lingnan Club in Central.

Lingnan University and the Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations co-organised “The 13th and 14th Seminars for Senior Administrators from the East Guangdong Region” on 8-14 and 22-28 September respectively on the University campus.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has recently made the appointments/re-appointments to the Council and the Court of Lingnan University.

Lingnan University will confer honorary fellowship upon five distinguished individuals, namely, Mr James Chen; Mrs Sophie Leung Lau Yau-fun, GBS, JP; Prof Anna Pao Sohmen, SBS; Mr Tang Shu-wing and Prof Tang Yunwei, in recognition of their valuable contributions to the well-being of society.

Lingnan University will confer honorary doctorates upon four distinguished individuals, namely, Mr Gaston Kaboré, Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Ms Ng Wing-mui and Mr Wong Pak-heung, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective professions and valuable contributions to the well-being of society.

New Publications

The Centre for Humanities Research of Lingnan University (CHR) has co-published a collection of urban short stories entitled In Search of a Flat: An Anthology of Hong Kong Urban Short Stories with the Association of Stories in Macao (ASM).

Dr Mary Wong Shuk-han of the Department of Chinese of Lingnan University has published a new book titled Hong Kong Cinema and Literature: Writer, Film and Adaptation.

The 15th Volume of “Slant”, entitled “Let’s Change the World…Together. Wake up, Dream on!”, is now published.

Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation will launch the 3rd charity walk from Tsuen Wan Park to Bellagio in Sham Tseng on Sunday, 17 November 2013, to unite the efforts and caring hearts from tertiary institutions and to improve the lives of the villagers by building footbridges in remote villages in rural China. Students, staff and alumni of all tertiary institutions in Hong Kong are invited to join the event. You are welcome to enroll through Student Services Centre before 5 pm, 25 October 2013.
