On 1-2 November, 32 top-notch scholars in the fields of pre-modern Chinese literature and Confucian classics presented their papers in the International Conference on Sinology and re-launch of the Lingnan Journal organised by Lingnan’s Department of Chinese on campus.

The annual “Tin Ka Ping Mainland Scholars and Senior Administrators Exchange Programme” was held on 3-9 November on campus.

On 6 November, Argentinean flutist and composer Mr Eduardo Tami; Mr Chau Chuck-jee, member of the piano duo group Duetissimo; Mr Ivan Kung, Manager of The Hong Kong Tertiary Students’ Ensemble and its members collaborated in the Concert@Lingnan: Tango Argentina Passion on campus.

Whichever model of political transition any country may choose to adopt, it must be given enough time and space to be improved and consolidated, otherwise any change taking place will become irrelevant, Dr Vesna Pusić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, told Lingnan staff and students at her seminar on 8 November.

Prize-winning books of the “German Best Book Design 2012 and 2013” are now on display at Lingnan’s Fong Sum Wood Library until 20 December. An opening ceremony officiated by Ms Gabriele Sander, Head of Library and Information Service, Hong Kong Goethe Institute and Ms Rachel Cheng, the University’s Librarian, was held on 11 November.

A series of colourful events were organised by the Lingnan University Alumni Association (LUAA) on 15-19 November to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the University.

The Community College at Lingnan University (CCLU) has collaborated with Actors’ Family, the most prominent musical theatre company in Hong Kong, to foster the students’ interests and enhance their skills in performing arts. A signing ceremony was held on 19 November.

On 20 November, Lingnan University’s Centre for Cinema Studies organised a film screening of Buud Yam, a 1997 Burkinabé historical drama film written and directed by Gaston Kaboré, followed by a sharing session with Mr Kaboré.

Esteemed banker Prof Liu Mingkang has been invited to give a lecture entitled “Some thoughts about the construction of RMB internationalisation” at Lingnan University.

Lingnan University’s Office of Mainland and International Programme held a farewell reception for more than 100 incoming exchange students this semester at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery on campus on 25 November.

President Leonard K Cheng and four guest speakers from various departments at Lingnan University were invited to the LN-Talk organised by the Service-Learning Student Association on 25 November to share their insights on a wide range of social and self-help issues.

Yu Hua’s signature penchant for description of brutal violence in his writings was inspired by Richard Wagner’s music and a letter of Vincent van Gogh he came across in the 1980s that re-defined his concept of harmony, the renowned Chinese novelist told more than 200 Lingnan students and staff members at a sharing session on 25 November.

A double master programme in corporate finance and international banking & finance will be jointly offered by Lingnan University and École Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d’Angers (ESSCA) of France. A signing ceremony was held on 26 November.

More than 300 local and international students, teachers and staff members shared a Thanksgiving dinner on 27 November.

An exhibition co-organised by artist-in-residence Anna Glynn and Visual Studies Department Assistant Professor Carol Archer was held at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery from 28 November to 12 December.

Three Lingnan University academics were honoured in the Research Grants Council (RGC) award presentation ceremony for the 2013/14 application cycle on 29 November.

Two Lingnan academics have successfully applied for three grants totalling more than $1.1 million in the 2013/14 first round exercise of the new Public Policy Research (PPR) Funding Scheme managed by the Central Policy Unit, Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

A new textbook Chinese Communication: An Integrated Approach by Chinese Language Education and Assessment Centre (CLEAC) of Lingnan University has won the top prize at the Third Outstanding University Textbook Award Competition in China.

The 37th volume of “Cultural Studies@Lingnan” is now published.
