Lingnan University welcomes new students by hosting a series of activities during July and August 2014.

On 26-27 July, 177 Year 2 and 3 students participated in a 2-day Peer Mentorship Training Programme in which they learned to be mentors of freshmen. Through team-building games and group discussions, senior students were equipped with the skills to help freshmen adapt to the new environment.

The New Student Orientation took place on 22-24 August, providing freshmen with information on academic and campus life as well as guidance on how to make the most out of their university education. They also had the opportunity to taste the vibrant living and learning environment through watching the performances and visiting the booths of different interest clubs at the Campus Life Carnival.

Lingnan University will confer honorary doctorates upon three distinguished individuals, namely, Dr Philip Chen Nan-lok, GBS, JP; Prof Liu Yi-chang, BBS, MH and Prof Frederick Ma Si-hang, GBS, JP in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective professions and valuable contributions to the well-being of society.

In celebration of the 125th anniversary of Lingnan University and the introduction of Performance Studies as a new minor in the 2014-15 academic year, the University invited Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio, a renowned centre for theatrical research and creation in Hong Kong, to present the show Detention at the Shouson Theatre of Hong Kong Arts Centre on 30 August 2014.

Prof Kwong Yim-tze of Lingnan University has been selected as one of the recipients of the University Grants Committee (UGC) Award for Teaching Excellence 2014.

Scholarships

The R. C. Lee Centenary Scholarships 2015 is now open for applications. The Scholarships support scholars’ pursuit of study at doctoral, master’s or bachelor’s level at overseas universities in any countries of their own choice (except Hong Kong).

Up to three each year

Value of Scholarships:

The amount of the award will be determined by the Foundation on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the level of tuition fees, accommodation costs, living expenses appropriate to the country in which they will be studying, books and incidental expenses.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

Candidates must

- have been offered a place on a full-time course at their chosen university to study their chosen course;

- have obtained a first-class honours degree from their university in Hong Kong (final year undergraduate students may still apply);

- be able to communicate effectively in English; and

- be under the age of 25 years on the date when their awards commence.
