Lingnan University has recently announced the results of the Teaching Excellence Awards Scheme 2015/16.  The Scheme is established to recognise and reward distinguished teachers of the University who have demonstrated outstanding performance in teaching.

A public lecture themed “The Nature of Modernity” by Prof Liah Greenfeld, Distinguished Adjunct Professor of the Department of Sociology & Social Policy was held on 11 May to trace the features of modern experience in Western society.

A delegation of the Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association visited the University on 19 May.  Apart from understanding the latest development of Lingnan, views were also exchanged with the delegation on how to strengthen student internship and research activities.

Lingnan University’s Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) is one of the four gerontology research institutes in Hong Kong commissioned by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to conduct research to assess the current age-friendliness in society and identify appropriate directions of action under its Age-friendly City Project.

The 4th Higher Education Research Association Conference co-organised by Lingnan University and The University of Hong Kong was held on 27 and 28 May, which attracted researchers from Germany, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong to share their latest observations and valuable insights on higher education development.

From serving as Member of the Telecommunications (Competition Provisions) Appeal Board to serving as Member of the Administrative Appeals Board, Prof Lin Ping from the Department of Economics can be regarded as an expert on legal issues regarding market competition. Recently, he was appointed to the Panel of Economic Consultants of the Hong Kong Competition Commission. During a conversation with Prof Lin, he shared his research interests in competition laws as well as the development of competition policy research at Lingnan.

Flora Chen’s admission to Columbia University exhilarated the professors at the Department of Visual Studies, who witnessed another graduate with courageous willingness to define her own values and carve out her own life.

Starting from the 2016-17 academic year, the Department of Applied Psychology of Lingnan University will offer a new Master of Science in Work and Organszational Psychology Programme.

New Publications

After two and half years of in-depth study, Prof Preet Hiradhar, Assistant Professor of Department of English of Lingnan University published the second edition of the book Critical Reading and Writing in the Digital Age together with Prof Andrew Goatly, Honorary Professor of Department of English.

The April 2016 issue of the “Accelerating Research and Impact” Newsletter was published, featuring the University’s research achievements and fine examples of research and knowledge transfer projects conducted by Lingnan scholars with impact to the society and positive contributions to people’s well-being.
