A number of Lingnanians have been bestowed with honours or appointed Justices of the Peace by the HKSAR Government this year in recognition of their significant contributions to Hong Kong or for their dedicated public and community service.
Associate Professor Elizabeth Ho at the Department of English is one of the recipients of the Teaching Excellence Awards 2015/16, the biennial competition at Lingnan that recognises teachers who have demonstrated outstanding performance. With teaching experience in the US, she advocates open communication between faculty and students.
Over 100,000 tonnes of glass waste are produced in Hong Kong each year. However, due to the low recycling rate, a large amount of recyclable resources are wasted. In view of this, four Lingnan students have proposed an “Elite Recycling Enterprise” plan to set up a social enterprise to process glass waste with innovative technology, and at the same time employ people with disabilities in the hope of enhancing environmental protection and helping the disadvantaged to get a job.
A team of about 80 teachers and students from Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-sen University visited Lingnan University from 10 to 12 June to join the annual Student Exchange Programme of the two institutions. Through contests and exchange activities, students of the two institutions strengthened their mutual understanding and friendship.
Lingnan University promotes the development of smart city by joining the “Innovative Progress in PKI and Authentication International Symposium” on 7 July as a co-organiser.
The Shanghai-Hongkong Future Leaders (Lingnan Elites) Internship Programme 2016 came to a close on 10 July. At its closing ceremony on 9 July held in Shanghai, 30 participating Lingnan students shared their seven-week internship experience, and expressed their sincere thanks to employers and supporters who contributed to the success of the Programme.
A delegation of over 120 teachers and students from the Guangxi Normal University visited Lingnan on 11 July in order to understand the special features of our education and student life.
Lingnan University co-hosted the 2016 Global Marketing Conference, a biennial international event organised by the Global Alliance of Marketing and Management Associations in Hong Kong from 21 to 24 July.
The Third South-South Forum on Sustainability was held in Lingnan University from 23 to 29 July. The central themes of the Forum are financial capital crisis, trajectory of developing countries, regional integration, agrarian question, architecture/urbanism, social justice, ecological justice, and visions for the future
Lingnan University’s Department of Economics and the China Economics Research Programme together with Intel China organised a knowledge transfer conference from 25 to 27 July entitled “Promoting Effective e-learning Modes in Schools of Mainland China and Hong Kong”. Over 60 participants, mainly education administrators, school principals, teachers and researchers from Mainland China and Hong Kong attended to exchange ideas and share knowledge on e-learning.
The University has recently strengthened its global links with the signing of a number of new inter-institutional agreements.

The University community mourned the sad loss of Senior Fireman Mr Samuel Hui Chi-kit, an alumnus of Lingnan Institute of Further Education, who passed away on June 23 at the age of 37 while attending a fire in an industrial centre in Ngau Tau Kok.
