Prof Pai Hsien-yong, one of the most renowned writers in the Chinese speaking world today, gave an open lecture on “The World of Fiction in the Dream of Red Chamber” at Lingnan University on 23 April.  Students and staff from Lingnan, joined by secondary school students from Tuen Mun and Yuen Long, as well as many other literature lovers, crowded the lecture hall for this event.

Vice-President Joshua Mok Ka-ho paid a visit to the UK in April to strengthen Lingnan’s collaborations with two renowned universities, namely the University of Bath and Nottingham Trent University.

Prof Siu Oi-ling, Professor and Head of Department of Applied Psychology of Lingnan University visited the School of Psychology of Nanjing Normal University (NJNU) from 2 to 3 April for academic exchange with their faculty and students, and explored the collaboration in offering a joint double master degree in Work and Organisational Psychology.

The University has recently strengthened its global links with the establishment of a number of new inter-institutional agreements.  They include an agreement with Davidson College in the US for the President’s Scholar Programme, and agreements with University of Bucharest in Romania, University of Latvia in Latvia, and VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa eminent for being an anti-apartheid revolutionist, once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”  Recipient of this year’s The Most Distinguished Student of the University Award Twinkie Wong Tsing-sum (Psychology Year 4) proved the quote with her four years of diligent work.  What has Twinkie done to earn her such a prestigious honour before graduation?

The Lingnan Arts Festival 2018, an annual gala of arts and cultural activities, came to a fruitful close on 27 March with the English drama performance “Animal Farm”.  Apart from featuring a series of drama, dance and musical performances, the Festival provided an opportunity for film appreciation and interaction with the Writer-in-Residence and Artist-in-Residence on campus. Professor Grace Chou Ai-Ling, Arts Festival Coordinator and Head of the Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit, shares her reflections on the Lingnan Arts Festival with Lingnan Touch here.

On 3 March, students, teachers and community members gathered to share ideas at the TEDxLingnanUniversity annual mainstage event.  The event featured eight speakers under the theme “Change Makers”, giving this diverse panel of presenters a platform to share how they are creating positive impacts on society.
