Scholarships

The University has established a new scholarship exclusively for JUPAS applicants with effect from 2018/19.  Students whose HKDSE results satisfy the award criteria will be offered scholarships corresponding to their highest academic achievements.  Students will be awarded a Full-tuition Scholarship (renewable) with a HKDSE score of 25 or above and Level 4 or above in both Chinese and English Languages.  Please click here for details.

Lingnan University held its 2018/19 Inauguration Ceremony on 22 August to mark the beginning of the new academic year and welcome hundreds of new students from all over the world.

The University’s new mobile app “LU Mobile”, which integrates living and learning at Lingnan, has been launched recently.  Users can keep abreast of the latest news of Lingnan through real-time data and enjoy a more efficient and convenient campus life.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation, the Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies (HKIBS) organised “The 12th Seminar for the Representatives of the Minority Nationalities Autonomous Prefectures in China” from 16 to 27 August.  The two-week programme was conducted for a group of 40 representatives from 26 provinces, cities or counties of Anhui, Beijing, Chongqing, Gansu, Guangxi, Guangzhou, Guizhou, Hainan, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Tianjin, Xinjiang and Yunnan in China.

Invited by Fudan University, five sports teams from Lingnan, namely Men’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, participated in the 2018 The Fifth Taiwan Cross-Strait cum Hong Kong and Macau University Student Sports Exchange Competition.  A group of 60 students and coaches visited Fudan University in Shanghai from 8 to 15 August.

The following appointments/ re-appointments to the Council and the Court of the University have been made recently with effect from 1 August 2018.

Lingnan University has secured a fund of HK$28.63 million for the proposal entitled “ICH+” Heritage of Pride: Intangible Cultural Heritage Education.  In collaboration with a major arts and culture incubator in Hong Kong, this project aims to preserve, promote, redefine and revitalize the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of Hong Kong with a novel integration of “Education”, “Revitalization and Investigation” as well as “Curating and Audience-building”.

Through a series of dynamic and action-packed events in six months, the Lingnan High-Flyers programme concluded successfully in June.  This brought a fruitful learning experience to the programme participants.

The University has recently strengthened its global links through signing new agreements on academic cooperation with College of Law and Business in Israel, Soochow University in Taiwan, University of Bath in UK and Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

As a collaboration between Lingnan University and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (T.W.G.Hs), over 250 students from 18 T.W.G.Hs secondary schools participated in their first indoor 5-A-Side football tournament in the Jackie Chan Gymnasium at Lingnan on 5, 6 and 10 July.

Ms Bowie LAM Po-Yee is a Lingnan alumna dedicated to helping marginalised young women and girls who are often under social prejudice.  She founded a shelter for them in 2011, only one year after she graduated from Lingnan.  Over the past seven years, Bowie, Founder and Executive Director of Teen’s Key - Young Women Development Network and her colleagues have changed the lives of vulnerable young ladies who were once left behind due to misunderstandings by the society.

To further promote the liberal arts education, the University extended the scope of the summer institute and introduced the Lingnan Liberal Arts Young Scholars Programme to senior secondary students.  This programme aims to cultivate students’ interest in pursuing liberal arts disciplines for university education in the coming year.  It offers students a one-month residence in the University in July 2018, during when s/he will be mentored by an academic staff member of the University to help with a junior research project.  Participating students can have a taste of university life and experience undergraduate learning.

New Publications

The latest issue of Lingnan Chronicle recaptures a series of celebratory events on Lingnan’s 50th Anniversary of re-establishment in Hong Kong in the second half of the academic year. 

A new book Xu Zidong on Modern Chinese Literature has recently been published, collecting a series of lectures by Prof XU Zidong, Professor of Department of Chinese who teaches the compulsory course “Modern Chinese Literature” at Lingnan.  With an integration of decades of Prof Xu’s lectures, it is expected that the publication can evolve into a relatively complete brief history of modern Chinese literature.
