As a liberal arts institution, Lingnan University values academic performance and involvement in community service.
The winner of the Most Distinguished Student of the University Award 2018/19 is Mateena Hammad, a final-year political science student. She has been recognised for her outstanding academic performance plus her active involvement in raising awareness about minorities in the local community.
On 12 April, Lingnan University honoured more than 20 faculty members in the Research and Knowledge Transfer (KT) Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony for their achievements in eminent research outputs, KT projects of high social relevance and impact, and success in obtaining competitive funds from the Research Grants Council under the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS), General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS).
Lingnan University has presented 374 outstanding students with a total of 546 awards and scholarships totalling more than HK$13.5 million during the 2018/19 academic year. The Awards Presentation and Reception 2019 was held on 8 April 2019, in recognition of their outstanding academic and personal achievements during the 2018/19 academic year.
On 9 April, Lingnan University organised the Naming Ceremony of Wofoo Joseph Lee Student Activity Centre cum Establishment of Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre, at the Wofoo Joseph Lee Student Activity Centre located in the Multi-purpose Outdoor Sports Ground of the University, to honour Dr Joseph LEE, Chairman of Wofoo Foundation,for his generous donation in support of the establishment of Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre in the Department of Applied Psychology of Lingnan University to develop consulting and counselling psychology researches and associated services.
The Hebei Provincial Education Department led a delegation of senior management members of universities in Hebei Province to visit Lingnan University on 9 April to foster the cooperation relationships.
The ‘Postgraduate Student Exchange Programme’ Partnership Agreement was signed by Professor Oi-Ling Siu, Head of the Department of Applied Psychology, Lingnan University and Professor Hu Ping, Head of Department of Psychology, Renmin University of China in a signing ceremony held in Lingnan University. Professor Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University, Professor Joshua Ka-Ho Mok, Vice-President of Lingnan University, Professor Sharma Shalendra, Associate Vice-President (Academic Quality Assurance and Internationalisation) of Lingnan University and Professor Wei Xiangdong, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Lingnan University attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing of the agreement.
In addition to modern cityscape, Hong Kong has world-class rock formations and other interesting geological features. In order to engage students to explore hidden natural treasures and enjoy the natural and cultural heritage, the Division of Graduate Studies (DGS) organized a visit to Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark on 7 April 2019.
In collaboration with the Ocean Park Hong Kong, students of the cluster course “Life Sciences: The Way Life Works” hosted a narration and game booth at the Skylight from 3 to 4 April to arouse protection of sharks.
The Faculty of Arts brings us a brand new website on 2 April with enhanced mobile accessibility.
With an user-friendly interface and minimalistic aesthetics, the revamped website allow users to view and search information more easily than before: key study information and academic dates; undergraduate and postgraduate programme information; details of events; latest achievements and research; everything within a few clicks .
Organised by the Core Curriculum and General Education Office of the University and the CNEX, the Food and Nature Film Series presented a screening of the documentary Project Wild Thing on 21 March, assembling an audience of over 60 Lingnan students and staff.
Lingnan University President Leonard K Cheng and the delegation he led conducted a very fruitful trip to the UK in March. On 27 March, President Cheng delivered a presentation at King's College London on the subject of China’s economic strategy.
The Lingnan University Career Development Committee (LUCDC) and the Hong Kong Professionals & Senior Executives Association (HKPASEA) jointly held the first Career Exploration Day on campus on 2 March 2019.
