Awards and Achievements

Displaying a never-give-up spirit, Lingnan's Judo and Karate team members fought hard at various competitions in Hong Kong and Macau recently, and brought home trophies and pride.  

Mariam Bibi, a psychology major in her third year at Lingnan University, has been awarded a prestigious Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship 2018/19, which recognises academic excellence and her commitment to helping people with dementia.

Presented by the Department of English, a discussion on “The State of Press Freedom in Hong Kong and around the Globe” took place on the Lingnan campus on May 3 to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, which is recognised by the United Nations.

30 Lingnan University students will be working as interns in Shanghai this summer for the 8-week “The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) Mainland Summer Internship Programme”. Apart from acquiring real-life working experience, they will also be able to witness the latest development of the Mainland, and experience the lifestyle, work culture and business operations in the mainland companies.

To enhance students' understanding of the development and opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and its career prospects, the Student Services Centre (SSC) has recently organised a series of structured activities:

1. Talk on Career Opportunities & Challenges in Greater Bay Area

The SSC cooperated with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Society to launch the talk “Career Opportunities & Challenges in Greater Bay Area” on 4 March. Attracted some 60 students to attend, it aims to familiarise participants with the current development of the Greater Bay Area and the career and entrepreneurial opportunities it has to offer.

Promoting comparative research on social change and social policy, the Centre for Social Policy and Social Change organised an International Symposium aimed at examining the nature and implications of the Sino-Africa relations for inequalities and well-being from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Hong Kong's ethnic minority jobseekers often face obstacles that impede their employment opportunities, but a new Lingnan University study highlights a number of ways to improve their prospects.
