Thanksgiving Tree Campaign

Lingnan University is pleased to launch the “Thanksgiving Tree Campaign” in which a bronze lychee tree – the “Thanksgiving Tree” will be mounted on the wall of Patrick Lee Wan Keung Academic Building facing the Yu Kan Hing Memorial Garden. We sincerely invite you to make a donation to support the University’s sustainable development.

In recognition of your generous donation (HK$10,000 or more), your name or your chosen name, class, programme, graduation year etc. will be forever engraved on one of the leaves of the Thanksgiving Tree.

Your donation will be applied for matching under the Government’s 8th Matching Grant Scheme, thus further benefitting the University.

Awards and Achievements

According to the report of University Accountability Agreements (UAAs) announced by the University Grants Committee (UGC) recently, Lingnan University received the highest score in the area of “undergraduate satisfaction with the quality and value which they have gained from their teaching and learning experience”, which was evaluated by the undergraduates of the eight UGC-funded universities during the 2017/18 academic year.  

At the end of the academic year, some graduates look for a job while others pursue further studies. Final year student Eva Lam Man-chi from Cultural Studies has made up her mind to follow her athlete dream.

Established by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Undergraduate Scholarship offers full scholarships to outstanding students with strong leadership qualities, academic ability, commendable character and commitment to service. Recipients of the Scholarships will become JC Scholars and be given various opportunities for learning, personal development and social service.

To promote regional and international research collaboration among partnering institutions of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities (AALAU), the Office of Research Support of Lingnan University organised the Research Collaboration Workshop on 4 to 5 July 2019.

A group of Lingnan University researchers led by Professor Joshua Mok attended and presented at the 16th Annual Conference of East Asia Social Policy Research Network (EASP) at National Taiwan University on 2-3 July 2019. The theme of the Conference was "East Asian Welfare Futures: between Productivism and Social Investment". The Conference attracted over 160 participants from Asia, Europe, North America, Australia and Africa.

To promote the application of gerontechnology in Hong Kong and raise public awareness of smart ageing and technological innovation, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust funded the Lingnan University to organise the LU Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Ageing Project for three years.

In a tech-savvy era overflowing with electronic products, how can historic, traditional craftsmanship carry on in society?

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme is jointly launched by Lingnan University and Hong Kong Art School for a period of 4.5 years and has collaborated with schools in Hong Kong since 2018. Through experiential learning that integrates contemporary art methods into traditional craftsmanship, the programme aims to revitalise the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of Hong Kong and inherit the folk wisdom of ages.

With a view to advocate social harmony, Lingnan University endeavours to join hands with different people in society to promote active ageing in the elderly. From 25 to 26 June, the RTHK Radio 5 organised its first ever two-day, one-night university camp at Lingnan for 100 seniors, bringing together Lingnan student ambassadors and 90 secondary school students to fill the campus with positive energy.

Professor Joshua Mok, Vice President of Lingnan University, was invited by Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE) to present a keynote speech at the “Shaping Sustainable Futures for Internationalization of Higher Education Conference”, held on 24 to 25 June 2019 at the University of Toronto.

In June, the University has fostered a new agreement on academic cooperation with Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Peru.
