The outbreak of COVID-19 has threatened the well-being of every one in Hong Kong and beyond. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our 2020 graduates have missed some valuable opportunities associated with a normal university life. Moreover, the pandemic has casted a shadow over the future of this year’s graduates who will face a shrinking job market this summer.
In order to support our 2020 graduates in dealing with the adverse economic impact of the pandemic, the President and the Vice-President have decided to donate 10% of their annual salary to initiate the “Support Fund for 2020 Graduates” with a target of HK$5 million for the benefits of over 600 graduates this year.
We sincerely appeal to every one of you, as an invaluable member of the Lingnan community, to join hands with us. Your generous support in making a donation to the Fund or providing other non-monetary contributions, be they job, internship or community service opportunities, will be extremely meaningful and important to our graduating students. Alumni Ambassador Scheme aims to strengthen the connection between the University and alumni. It offers alumni a unique opportunity to connect with fellow classmates and make meaningful contributions to the alma mater.
Enthusiastic Alumni Wanted! If you are a graduate of Lingnan University (or its forerunner Lingnan College in Hong Kong since 1967), you can nominate yourself or be nominated by the University departments/offices to be Alumni Ambassador!
The COVID-19 pandemic has made work from home the norm for many employees in Hong Kong and around the world. This experience not only encourages them to reflect on working habits and wellbeing from a different perspective, but also allows organisations, and particularly human resources practitioners, to assess and review their policies and practice.
The COVID-19 outbreak is causing widespread disruption to daily life. Hong Kong people living in cramped subdivided flats with poor hygiene conditions have been particularly hard hit. In light of this alarming situation, Lingnan University (LU), Caritas Youth and Community Service, Health In Action, and Grassroots’ Livelihood Alliance are jointly launching “Project Ultra Violite” to provide a free, efficient UV disinfection service for 1,000 subdivided flats. It is the territory’s first community-wide programme using UV disinfection technology.
Research by the Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) of Lingnan University finds that the COVID-19 outbreak severely affected all kinds of services for the elderly at varying levels. Nearly 70 per cent of respondents working at service centres for the elderly said that “drop-in service” (69.8%) and “social and recreational services” (68.5%) were completely suspended. Additionally, respondents observed that service users had suffered from “lack of social activity” (over 90%) and from “increase of loneliness” (over 70%).
LU has announced the results of Research & Knowledge Transfer Excellence Awards 2020 and Teaching Excellence Awards Scheme 2019/20, recognising 45 faculty members and staff for their significant achievements in research and knowledge transfer projects, and excellence in teaching.
