Lingnan University Postgraduate Alumni Association (the Association) Formation Meeting and the First Executive Committee Election were held on 29 July 2020. Accepting the invitation by the University, a group of enthusiastic postgraduate alumni formed the Organising Committee for the formation of the Association since April 2019. The Formation Meeting was initially scheduled to be held in the first quarter of 2020 after 9 months of preparation. However, it was postponed and turned to an online meeting due to the epidemic of Coronavirus disease.
Witnessed by Dr. Frankie Lam, Associate Dean of School of Graduate Studies, Mr Matthew Mo, Director of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Affairs, and about 60 alumni who participated in the voting or entrusted attendees with their votes, the Association and its First Executive Committee were officially established.
Mr Matthew Mo gave his welcoming speech to thank for the enthusiastic participation and efforts made by the Organising Committee and wish them to connect with more local, Mainland and overseas alumni. Mr Chris Xia, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, then introduced the Association and its Constitution to the fellow alumni. He emphasized that one of the major missions of the Association was to build a strong and mutually supportive alumni network, which would bring together more alumni to promote and give back to the alma mater. Besides, it could also help enhance the interaction between alumni and students. Each member of the First Executive Committee gave the self-introduction before the voting. Finally, the Constitution and the First Executive Committee were endorsed unanimously. At the end of the meeting, the Executive Committee expressed their anticipation of recruiting more alumni to be members and their determination of contributing to the alumni and the alma mater.
The establishment of LU Alumni Giving Club aims to bring together a group of enthusiastic alumni who would like to support the alma mater and the younger fellows through making donations, and at the same time, strengthen the connection between alumni and the University.
From now on, alumni who make a one-off donation of HK$500 or above in any fundraising campaigns of the University are eligible for the membership of LU Alumni Giving Club (membership is valid for one year).
As a token of appreciation, members will receive a special souvenir and upon the presentation of the membership card, an array of privileges can be enjoyed. For details, please click here to visit our website.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has threatened the well-being of every one in Hong Kong and beyond. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our 2020 graduates have missed some valuable opportunities associated with a normal university life. Moreover, the pandemic has casted a shadow over the future of this year’s graduates who will face a shrinking job market this summer.
In order to support our 2020 graduates in dealing with the adverse economic impact of the pandemic, the President and the Vice-President have decided to donate 10% of their annual salary to initiate the “Support Fund for 2020 Graduates” with a target of HK$5 million for the benefits of over 600 graduates this year.
We sincerely appeal to every one of you, as an invaluable member of the Lingnan community, to join hands with us. Your generous support in making a donation to the Fund or providing other non-monetary contributions, be they job, internship or community service opportunities, will be extremely meaningful and important to our graduating students. As the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is still rising in Hong Kong, the University has decided to extend the special work arrangements until further notice while maintaining essential services of departments/offices/units. Heads of departments/offices/units are given discretion to adopt work-from-home arrangement whenever feasible, or other flexible work arrangements, for their staff members based on operational needs.
Studying abroad requires courage: to leave families and friends for an unknown place is one thing, and to adopt a new way of life, to make new friends, and to take care of oneself while studying is even more difficult.
As a university with more than 400 non-local students from all over the world each year, Lingnan understands the frustration and loneliness they have to tackle, and offers a wide choice of programmes and activities to help them adapt to their new life. One of these is the Lingnan Host Family Scheme, launched in 2008 and operated by the Student Services Centre.
The second annual showcase of the Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme with three distinctive themes is opened from 2 July to 2 August 2020 in the heart of Causeway Bay: Urban Sky at Hysan Place, Pak Sha Road and Sharp Street East. With over a 1,000 art pieces by instructors and students, the exhibition boasts revolutionary content, hoping to strike a chord with people of different ages and backgrounds.
In the 2020/21 Funding Exercise of the University Grants Committee (UGC)’s General Research Fund (GRF), Early Career Scheme (ECS) and Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS), 22 LU projects have received a grand total of $10.6 million.
