Fundraising

The outbreak of COVID-19 has threatened the well-being of every one in Hong Kong and beyond. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our 2020 graduates have missed some valuable opportunities associated with a normal university life.  Moreover, the pandemic has casted a shadow over the future of this year’s graduates who will face a shrinking job market this summer.

In order to support our 2020 graduates in dealing with the adverse economic impact of the pandemic, the President and the Vice-President have decided to donate 10% of their annual salary to initiate the “Support Fund for 2020 Graduates” with a target of HK$5 million for the benefits of over 600 graduates this year.

We sincerely appeal to every one of you, as an invaluable member of the Lingnan community, to join hands with us.  Your generous support in making a donation to the Fund or providing other non-monetary contributions, be they job, internship or community service opportunities, will be extremely meaningful and important to our graduating students.  Please click here to show your support!

Should you have any enquiries about the Fund, please click here to visit our website or contact our colleagues at 2616-8976 or development@LN.edu.hk. Thank you very much in advance for your support.

A recent survey “Understanding Hong Kong and Mainland university students’ intentions to study overseas after the COVID-19 crisis”, conducted by the School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University (LU) finds that only 16 per cent of respondents have plans to pursue postgraduate studies abroad. In addition, Hong Kong is the second most popular post-COVID study destination, just behind the US and ahead of the UK. The research team points out that the pandemic is shifting the mobility flow of international students, and that East Asian countries and regions are facing more opportunities in the increasingly competitive higher education sector for international students.

Lingnan University held its Honorary Fellowship Presentation Ceremony 2020 today (30 October). Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai, Chairman of the University Council, conferred honorary fellowships upon four distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective professions and valuable contributions to the well-being of society.

Lingnan University (LU) and HKT have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote gerontechnology in support of smart ageing and socialpreneurship development in Hong Kong.

In the office of Prof Peter Duffy, Director of Teaching and Learning Centre, a sign on the wall reads ‘Preserve the past and forge the future’. “I talk about it as stop, keep or rethink. Stop doing some things because they aren’t working or are not longer relevant, keep on doing some things because they are working really well, and rethink some things because they need to be refined in order to meet the needs of the University,” he says.

Six Lingnan taught postgraduate programmes have been included by the University Grants Committee in its Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme for the 2021/22 academic year. They are Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Social Policy (International), Master of Social Sciences in Health and Social Services Management. Master of Cities and Governance, Master of Arts in Curating and Art History, Master of Arts in Chinese and the Master of Science in Work and Organisational Psychology programmes.

To promote research in interdisciplinary cultural studies and motivate collaboration with the cultural sector, the Department of Cultural Studies has established the Centre for Cultural Research and Development (CCRD) to facilitate joint research and practice-based, interdisciplinary programmes.
