COVID-19 is affecting everyone, but its impact also depends on how we respond to it.

For his outstanding editorial work in the Journal of Chinese Literature and Culture; PRISM: Theory and Modern Chinese Literature, and the Lingnan Journal of Chinese Studies, Prof Cai Zongqi, Chair Professor of the Department of Chinese, has been named by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals (CELJ) as 2020 Distinguished Editor, the highest honour given by the CELJ. Prof Cai is also the first editor of a journal of Asian literature and culture to receive this award.

The University has recently received commendation from the University Grants Committee (UGC) on its achievement in Knowledge Transfer (KT) for 2019/20.

The COVID-19 outbreak has brought unprecedented challenges to Hong Kong and, according to data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the highest fatality rate has been in adults aged over 80. In view of this, Lingnan University (LU) has launched a brand new programme to promote using Chinese medicine to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in older adults, and reduce the infection risk in the spirit of “prevention is better than cure”.

A survey “Understanding Hong Kong working adults’ aspiration for taking up residence in the Greater Bay Area cities”, conducted by the School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University (LU), found that the psychological distance definitely reduces people’s intention to move to the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The research team noted an urgent need for policymakers to raise public awareness of the positive aspects of the GBA and its future development.

Lingnan University (LU) has recently established a publicly accessible Natural History Collection (the Collection) of specimens of local amphibians and reptiles to document Hong Kong’s biodiversity, and for research, conservation and education purposes.

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) held a session on the Students and Happy Ageing with Chinese Medicine Project on 23 December 2020, in which participating LU students, youth from the local community, registered Chinese medicine practitioners who provide training, the elderly, and staff from partner organisations discussed Chinese medicine and Chinese culture, as well as the unique cross-generational learning experience they are gaining from the programme.

STEP BY STEP exhibited LU students’ works of art created under the supervision of Artist-in-Residence Mak Yuen-yan, and was held from 10 to 22 December 2020.



From now on until the end of 2021-22 admission period, Lingnan folks can refer any families or friends to apply for full-time programmes of Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE). Applicants (referees), who are successfully admitted to LIFE full-time programmes, and referrers can get a HK$50 Eslite cash coupon each.
