Orientation and farewell receptions for incoming exchange students
Every semester, LU welcomes incoming exchange students from countries around the world to Hong Kong to experience our unique liberal arts education. On orientation day, the Office of Global Education (OGE) provides these students with important information about Hong Kong and campus life and advice for their stay in Hong Kong. The orientation talks and the Survival Cantonese class in the 2022–23 academic year were delivered virtually. Upon the students’ arrival at the LU campus, they moved into the student hostel and were greeted individually by OGE staff, who assisted them with the necessary student registration procedures.

Visiting a local traditional grocery store in the interactive virtual local tour of Central.
Online interactive cultural tours were arranged with expert guides, who led students virtually around different parts of Hong Kong. For example, via Zoom, incoming exchange students were brought to Central to take a look at the local street market, the world’s longest outdoor escalator, the newly-refurbished Tai Kwun complex that hosts 16 revitalised heritage buildings, and one of Hong Kong's oldest temples, Man Mo Temple.
The farewell reception was resumed in in-person mode in Term 2, 2022–23. Before heading back home, incoming exchange students gathered to say goodbye to each other. They revisited their wonderful, happy memories with their friends from around the world that they had made at LU and shared heartfelt wishes with each other. They also expressed their gratitude and appreciation to LU staff for the care and assistance that had made them feel at home during their exchange period.
